AVL opts for IVU's intelligent depot and charging management system

Berlin/Luxembourg, 15 April 2025 | Automated, efficient, reliable - Autobus de la Ville de Luxembourg (AVL) will use IT solutions from IVU Traffic Technologies AG for depot and charging management in the future. This enables the public transport operator to respond optimally to the constantly growing electric bus fleet and future-proof its processes.

AVL operates a dense traffic network with 31 routes in the city of Luxembourg and its surrounding area. The fleet is comprised of 134 buses, with the proportion of electric buses continuously increasing: By 2024, 37 e-buses were already in use for AVL. The increasing complexities of charging and rostering a growing fleet of electric buses presented great challenges to the previous depot management. IVU’s integrated software will improve this considerably in the future. IVU.vehicle automates vehicle deployment, while IVU.charge and IVU.forecast use intelligent algorithms to ensure optimised charging time and an ideal state of charge for the buses. As the final number of charging stations will be significantly lower than the number of electric buses, this interaction will enable efficient deployment and optimal utilisation of the charging stations. AVL is planning to convert its entire fleet to operate electrically by 2026.
