Modernising the Riedbahn: DB SEV relies on replacement transport services with IVU.cockpit and IVU.box.gateway

Berlin, 19 July 2024 | Always up to date - the high-performance replacement transport service for the Riedbahn railway guarantees seamless passenger information with hardware and software from IVU Traffic Technologies AG.

One of Germany’s busiest railway lines, the Riedbahn, is undergoing a major overhaul and will be out of action until the timetable change on 14th December 2024. During this period, passengers travelling on regional services will have to switch to buses, which is why DB SEV GmbH has established the "New Replacement Transport Service" (NEV). This high-quality service will feature IT solutions provided by IVU Traffic Technologies AG for its visual and audible passenger information.

From May to September 2023, the interaction between the buses, the integrated technology, and the IVU hardware and software was tested along the Nuremberg - Würzburg route. IVU.box.gateway was used as the interface between the buses, and the IVU.cockpit on-board computer software on Android tablets ensured that trip information was clearly displayed and audio signals, including stop announcements and special information, were transmitted effectively. Around 70 buses were deployed for the test run, while a total of 170 buses are currently equipped with IVU technology for the general overhaul of the Riedbahn.

The monitors inside the buses are really versatile, providing information on the trip itinerary, connection options, and the nearest stops."
