Integrated solution for planning and dispatch

The Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft mbH (AVG) with 180 railcars, 30 buses and 950 employees transports about 75 million passengers in the Karlsruhe-Heilbronn region every year. It enjoys a worldwide reputation as a central component of the “Karlsruhe Model”, in which dual-system light rail vehicles operate both in the inner city tram network and in the regional rail network.

Since the timetable change in 2018, AVG has been carrying out integrated planning of all vehicle working schedules and duties for its tram-trains with IVU.rail. Drivers can now use tablets with IVU.pad in their cabs for their day-to-day work. This means that they are always in contact with dispatch: reporting duty sign-ons, viewing duties, displaying time sheets and submitting duty requests – all of this is now done digitally at AVG.

The tablet is part of a comprehensive overall solution for a continuous digital workflow in planning and dispatch. Furthermore, IVU.rail speeds up processes at AVG through a host of automated functions. Planners now have integrated duty and vehicle working scheduling with an optimisation core that ensures better duty schedules. Automatic personnel dispatch (APD) suggests optimum duties for drivers at the touch of a button – taking into account the preferences submitted in IVU.pad.
